Freelance work can be legit and valuable, but as a  recruiter, you need to verify its authenticity while assessing your candidates technically.  Here's how:

First,

1.   Look for Evidence: Ask candidates for specific proof of their work such as —samples, reports, or any other deliverables. Also, Check for client reviews and ratings on the Freelance platform they have used. If they have LinkedIn recommendations, take a look at those too. And if they mention email feedback, ask them to forward it as an attachment to ensure it’s not fudged.

Next up,

2.   Request Client References: Speak directly with their clients. Ask about the type of work done, if it met expectations, and whether they’d rehire the candidate.

Finally

3.   Verify Earnings: Request candidates to provide evidence of payments for their freelance work. This could be invoices or bank statements. You may upfront tell them to hide sensitive details, such as the candidate's account number and non-related transactions on their bank statement.

By following these steps, you’ll ensure the candidate’s experience is genuine and it also builds trust with your hiring managers and clients.

Happy Recruiting!
