BUILDING CAREER BRIDGES
What Led Me
to Create the Career-focused
Job Prep & Technical Recruiting Online Courses
I know what it’s like to have an understanding of a profession when we plan to kick start our first ever job, transition our career to some new profession, or come back after a long work or study break.
This happened to me when I transitioned my career from teaching in a school to becoming a recruiter in a staffing company to a corporate setting. I have always been career oriented and wanted to get into the corporate world since my college days.
To give you my background, I earned my bachelor’s degree in Computer Application and post-graduate diploma in Business Management (PGDBM). While pursuing the PG, I developed a love for Human Resources (HR) and decided to make HR my career.
Since I was born and raised in a small city in the north of India, teaching was the only and best option available to me. Despite that, I never regretted being in academia, as teaching was my first passion since childhood. I taught in my hometown for a couple of years before I was married and moved with my husband to a tier 1 city.
Moving to a big city brought me in close proximity to several corporate job opportunities. But, due to the gap between the time I completed my PGDBM and entered a profession, I had to work hard to prove that I deserved an HR job.
It was 2007 when I actually started my career in Talent Acquisition with a staffing company and gradually pivoted to the corporate world. Eventually, I worked from startups to big Fortune 500 companies and have never looked back.
For over 15 years now, I have been involved in end-to-end talent acquisition, where I manage hiring processes, collaborate, and establish and build trusted relationships with leadership to devise the best hiring practices for an organization’s success.
Later, in 2017, I experienced a few professional pivots when I moved to the United States due to my husband’s work. Soon after moving to the States, I started exploring various options concerning leveling up my talent acquisition skills at a global level.
Consequently, I put my time and energy into earning a professional certification from the Society of Human Resources Management (SHRM), which is the number one association in HR around the globe. Clearing the certification was not easy, but I managed to earn it on my first attempt. It was a great win for me.
Gaining knowledge didn’t end there, as I realized learning is a lifelong process of effectively dealing with change, as change is constant. Therefore, keeping myself updated on the latest trends in HR, particularly in Talent Acquisition, became inevitable. For that matter, I decided to become an active member of SHRM for my continued professional growth.
Not only that, I have been involved in several recruiting projects to get hands-on experience in how TA works in North America, particularly in the US and the Canadian job market. This has provided me to see TA from a global standpoint.
Eventually, all these experiences and the acquired knowledge motivated me to start blogging in the talent acquisition space.
My goal is to help job seekers and talent acquisition pros get the most realistic and actionable tips and tricks that I have learned from my seniors and through my own work experiences.
I could have leveled up earlier in my career if I had formal training in talent acquisition. Learning things academically is different than performing actions in the real world, so I learned things the hard way through my own mistakes.
Consequently, I was determined to move forward with full optimism to take my education and knowledge, along with my professional experiences, to create online job search services and technical recruiter courses for anyone, no matter what phase of life you are in, from stay-at-home moms to existing professionals.
Cheers,
Nikita
